Hi everyone! With the summer season fast approaching... I figured it was time to introduce myself to everyone as the new Front of House Manager of The Galley on the Big Rideau.
My name is Alexandria Owen; Alex works though. I’ve worked in the customer service and hospitality industry for over ten years & I can honestly say that I love it. I can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to meeting everyone this year and starting this season off with a bang! I know I have big shoes to fill, and thank Peter, Sam, and all those before them, for doing such a great job leading up to this point.
Lots of things have been brewing; literally, we will be featuring new beers on tap this year, some delicious new menu items, new wine, some new decor, and just WAIT until you see what we’ve added to our patio. Change CAN be a good thing :)
So let me dive in and tell you a little bit about me; I grew up in Westport, and went to high school at Rideau District High School. While I was in my teens, and onward, I worked in local coffee shops as a barista, preparing sandwiches and other delicious goodies. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to go on a student exchange to Italy when I was in grade 11; that was it for me and I caught the travel and food bug.
Since then, I’ve been lucky enough to do more traveling, and I’ve been to Belize, several times! Have you ever been there? I love it! Palm trees, sandy beaches, ocean
Somewhere along the way, my love of traveling blossomed into a love of photography. Now, you will frequently find me wandering around by the water, up on Foley Mountain (...or is it a hill now?) taking photos or sunset chasing as I like to call it. I’m kinda like that eat, pray, love woman, if it was like eat, drink coffee, take pictures.
After a few years up in Ottawa (as Assistant Manager and owner of my own Sally Beauty Supply store), one year out West, here I am: back in the 273. After jumping back into the food industry last summer, at The Opinicon, I am so excited to begin this season as the Front of House manager at The Galley.
That’s me in a nutshell! Even though I haven’t meet you folks face-to-face- YET, feel free to shoot me a line. Or perhaps you’ll see me at the marina where I have been preparing for the upcoming season. Let’s get in touch before the summer starts to get crazy! Can’t wait to see you!
Alex
