Winterizing Your Boat: 8 Essential Tips for a DIY Approach

It's every boaters least favorite time of year... As the season winds down and the colder weather approaches, we start to think about preparing our boats for winter. Proper winterization and storage not only protects your vessel from the snow and ice, but also helps to ensure you're ready to hit the water when spring arrives. While some might prefer to leave this to the professionals, many boat owners choose to take on the task themselves. We've curated a checklist that will help you tackle winterization!

1. Treat your fuel. 

2. Clean your boat thoroughly.

3. Change the engine oil and filter.

4. Drain and winterize your engine block.

5. Change the lower unit lubricant

6. If applicable, winterize additional water systems like toilets, ballast systems, livewells, etc.

7. Remove the hull drain plug.

8. Store your boat properly.
